fondant is my canvas

i've started to get into hand painted cakes. they're free for now, while i'm trying to improve my craft. i have limited time to do this while i'm not terribly equipped and i have no real investment into any kind of business so i haven't really been able to accept all requests but i try.

i'm concentrating on the visual part of it for now. i still try to make the cakes taste as good as possible. if i do use a box mix, i modify it so much that it doesn't even taste like it came from a box. however, all icing is made from scratch. from the butter cream to the fondant to any other kind of filling or frosting, all of it is home-made.

i prefer to do prints, patterns or custom designs in which a concept is requested and i am given carte blanche to decide how to proceed. unfortunately, the bulk of what i've been asked for have been characters.

shown here are pictures of just two of the several cakes i've made.

the above right cake was made for my son, mikey's, ninth birthday. it's a yugi-oh character.

the cake to the left was a going away cake for my cousin. she had just graduated from high school and was about to leave for culinary school in san francisco. this was a conceptualized cake. i painted a charicature of a girl in a chef's uniform against the backdrop of a few san francisco landmarks. in the upper left hand corner is the golden gate bridge. to its right is lombard street. below the gate are three victorian row houses from the bay. to the bottom right of the character is a cable car. on the lower left hand corner is the symbol of the academy she is attending.
